Hundreds of women from Limanet area in Narok North Sub County held a peaceful demonstration and asked police to release seven youths who had been arrested for allegedly assaulting a notorious brewer.
The women matched from their homes to Narok Police station, which is about 20 kilometres away carrying twigs to express their anger.
Susan Tuyoto, one of the demonstrators said the women were furious because of a recent incident where they had arrested a woman who allegedly sells illicit brew in the area but after one day, she was allegedly released from police custody.
After her arrest, the women said seven of the youth who were involved in arresting the woman were also nabbed.
She decried that the illicit brew had left many homes wallowing in abject poverty as men sell their livestock to buy the outlawed alcohol.
Letuno Tiyot, a resident said despite their efforts to stamp out the illicit brew, the brewere was adamant in selling alcohol to people working in the quarries and in tomato farms.
However, Narok North Police boss Frederick Kibenei explained to the demonstrators that the woman had a right of being freed after paying police bond.
