We have lost a resourceful person, leaders mourn former Rongai councilor

Kajiado County leaders are mourning death of former Ongata Rongai councilor Samuel Githaiga Maina who died on Monday in Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi County.

The deceased was involved in an accident along Nakuru Nairobi highway on Saturday; he was driving to his Ongata Rongai home from Nakuru.

The former councilor has been described as a resourceful person whose contribution to the development of Kajiado County shall be missed.

Maina was elected councilor for Rongai 1997 to 2002 .When he lost his seat he was nominated as councilor in Ngarariga in Kiambu County in 2002 to 2007. In 2007 he retained his seat in Rongai until 2013.

He had taken the duty of oversight, ensuring that the National and County Government provide services to people after he lost his seat to incumbent Mwathi Pere.

Kajiado North Constituency MP Joseph Manje on Tuesday sent his condolences to the deceased’s family describing the late as a true patriot who was very vocal on issues affecting people of Ongata Rongai especially garbage,traffic jam and grabbing of public utilities.

Former Senator Peter Mositet said the deceased was a brave leader who spoke without fear.

Ongata Rongai Bunge la Mwananchi speaker Peterson Obegi said the late was active in ensuring that the government provides services to residents.

He said he was not easily swayed by leaders in government when it comes to service to the people.The deceased was the Bunge’s chief advisor.

Maina was the founder of the Greater Ongata Rongai Residents Welfare Association (Gorrwa).An association that has been pushing the government to solve issues affecting the region such as sewer system and tarmacking of roads.

There will be a memorial service on the 28th January 2021 in Rongai market grounds Ongata Rongai Ward . Funeral service and burial will be held on 29th at his home in Kiptangwanyi sub location ,Kiambogo Nakuru County.
