Two cases of Cholera reported in Ongata Rongai

Two cases of Cholera have been reported in Ongata Rongai hospitals.

The patients were recorded in Ongata Rongai Hospital and a private hospital.

They are from Nkoroi,Kanisani Road Olkeri Ward and Kware Nkaimurunya Ward.

The Nkaimurunya patient is a food handler along Church Road in Rongai town.

The patient is said to have eaten supper in her premises before leaving to her house at night.

The cases were reported on Monday by a local administrator who called on the public to be cautious.

Nkaimurunya Rapid Response Team has taken history of the cases and people who interacted with the patients in the last 10 hours have already received prophylaxis drugs.

Four days ago ,Ministry of Health issued an alert reporting cases in six counties,2 were reported in Kajiado,2 in Nakuru, Kiambu (31),Nairobi (17),Murang’a(1)and Uasin Gishu (8).

The National Public Health Microbiology Laboratory Isolated Vibrio cholera 01 Ogawa as the responsible serotype.

Cholera is a cute diarrhoea illness caused by vibrio cholerae bacteria.It leads to hypovolemic shock within 24 hours due to profuse watery diarrhoea and vomiting.

It is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with cholera bacteria.
