Oloolaiser Water and Sewerage Company has paid part of the electricity bill owed to Kenya Power Company after power disconnection.
The power company had disconnected electricity supply to the water firm over unpaid bills estimated to be Sh8 million. The power disconnection had paralyzed services in the company that supplies water to Kajiado North Sub County residents.
Residents have been without water for three days now with water vendors taking the opportunity to make a killing with a 20- litre, jerrycan selling at Sh30 up from Sh15.
On inquiry on the crisis Auka Alpha who heads the company said they have already paid part of the money and are expecting Kenya Power to reconnect electricity.
He said the power company had cut off power on the weekend when there is no transaction that could have taken place. Last year the power company had also cut off electricity in Ngong which led to a water crisis in the busy town.
Some officials were reportedly ordered to step aside last year as the firm’s challenges were being looked into.
Auka who took over on acting capacity said the company is running on well and there is no crisis at the moment. However, according to sources several employees have been sent home.
