Ministry of environment to put up recycling facility in Ngong to complement Lenku’s Mazingira Unit

Kajiado County Govenor Joseph ole Lenku has unveiled Mazingira unit, the unit consist of county govt officers who will be leading in implementation of the County’s livable towns project .

The unit which was commissioned in Ngong Catholic grounds will help the county attain the goal of livable town by streamlining and spearheading the cleanliness and waste management of all urban centres.

`My vision and resolve is to achieve a transformed and sustainable Kajiado through Modulated Pastoralism, Livable towns, Climate-proofed physical environment and Equitable access to quality education,’ Lenku said.

He pointed out that his administration was successful in clearing Ngong dumping site that was a menace in the town and wil turn the place to a recreation centre. 

The govenor directed environment officers to take action to residents who dump sewer water to roads and directed those living along rivers tp move out in preparedness of El nino rains expected next month.

He said the govt is taking all the necessary measures in anticipation of the projected extra-heavy rain, including accelerating  capacity to harvest rainwater.

Lenku said it is time leaders implement what they were elected to do and civil servants politicking will be shown the door.

In order to fully reap the economic benefits of  rapidly growing urban centres, the county will need to improve and sustain a high standard of livability.

That includes reliable supply of water, good housing, extensive infrastructure and a clean and healthy environment.

Cabinet Secretary for Environment Soipan Tuya in a speech read  by Esther Lokwei who represented her in the function said the ministry  will set up material recovery facility in Ngong to deal with sold waste challenges, it will turn the waste into useful resources.

She pointed out that the national government will work with the County to ensure the projects are successful.

Other leaders who attended the commissioning are Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho,Senator Kanar Seki, MP Onesmus Ngogoyo who said they will work with the governor in implementaion of projects.
