Kajiado County nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Onesmus Ngogoyo has for long been in the limelight as a politician who does not fear confronting senior leaders by giving his opinion that many politicians will not publicly issue, his way of approaching issues is very different from other leaders.

Ngogoyo who was nominated in 2017 after defeated in Olkeri Ward representative nominations has turned to be a politician who debates about issues that his colleagues and other top leaders fear to discuss publicly.

During former Governor David Nkedianye’s rule, the MCA gave the governor sleepless nights opposing his leadership anytime he got an opportunity. At one time Nkedianye told him he will be the first person to be sent home in a polling station but his (Nkedianye) votes will be counted in headquarters. At one time some Maasai elders tried to ban him from addressing occasions in what they said was lacking respect for former the governor.

In the recent past Ngogoyo has been in the limelight in criticizing governor Joseph ole Lenku’s leadership style and at the same time, defending him. He has been publicly telling him to rectify some issues which he feels are not done in a right way, advising him to fire some individuals who he says are misadvising him, leaving some electorates wondering why he is not addressing the issues in indoors meetings.

Nominated MCA Onesmus Ngogoyo.

The MCA is among several MCAs from North who did not attend Lenku’s scorecard in Kiserian Kajiado West, others were Mwathi Pere (Rongai) Martin Kimemia (Oloolua), Robert Sungura(Ngong),Peter Gitau (Olkeri) nominated MCAs Richard Lenana  and MCA Violet Wahinya. The MCAs had protested delay of their salaries,  with the speaker Johnson Osoi saying they were not invited. The National Treasury  had delayed releasing the money due to a standoff between the Senate and the National Assembly.

During a funeral in Oloolua, the MCA led MCAs Mwathi and Kimemia in demanding firing of water Manager Director Dickson Ntikoisa who they said has failed to lead Oloolaiser Water Company, the company has financial challenges and has failed to pay for electricity and paying staff.  The MD is said to be close to the governor and he (Lenku) who was present did not respond to MCAs’ issues.

In an interview with this reporter CEC member Water Michael Semera defended the MD, saying he is qualified and scored more than 80 % in an interview for the position. He had been appointed in interim position before the interview.

In Rongai during opening of new health centre by Lenku the MCA continued pushing the governor to act on the Oloolaiser issue. He also told him to employ local staff in the hospital; at the same time he defended Lenku’s development record. He said the health centre was equipped by the governor and the area MCA must congratulate him.

In a rejoinder Lenku said the MCAs should applaud him since he has ensured his government has employed different tribes.

“For these you have to congratulate the governor without him this hospital would have not been opened,” Ngogoyo told MCA Mwathi. The health centre was constructed by past regime. In allocation of ward funds Mwathi has been in disagreement with Lenku for what he says is failure by the county government to allocate his ward money for a flagship project.

Ngogoyo is also against CEC Member in charge of Trade Alvin Kimani leadership style. He told the Oloolua congregation trade department headed by Alvin was coming up with rules to appoint chairpersons of markets without traders’ contribution. He claimed the CEC member position occupied by Alvin was meant to be his.

The MCA has also been defending Lenku in other occasions. In Kajiado West and Kajiado East he has been on the ground defending Lenku against MP Peris Tobiko who has been criticising governor’s leadership. The MP announced her intention of running for governor position and has been in the frontline in calling electorates to reject him alleging he has failed in development and uniting the county.

Ngogoyo is said to have accompanied the governor to Isinya Primary where he told off Tobiko, he defended the governor’s development record.

In an interview with this reporter Ngogoyo said he is doing oversight, adding  people who surround the governor are not telling him the truth and he had to take over the role of informing him what electorates want. He said he has no issue with the Oloolaiser MD but he must come from North, the same way the governor had let Nolturesh Loitokitok Water & Sanitation to be led by a local from Loitoktok.

On the issue of preparing himself for 2022 Kajiado North MP position, he said, he will announce at the right time. There have been reports that the MCA will be vying for MP in Kajiado North and sitting MP Manje is also preparing another person to take his position and he (Manje) going for a top position in the county. But Manje has denied the reports and maintained is supporting Lenku.

An MCA who sought anonymity claimed the nominated MCA is Lenku’s confidant and as nominated MCA he can do anything he wants since electorates rejected him and cannot monitor him. Ngogoyo has publicly announced that is supporting the DP William Ruto for 2022 presidential positions and Manje has also maintained that he is not in any of the two opposing camps Kieleweke and Tangatanga.

Nkaimurunya Ward  representative James Waisha who attended the governor’s scorecard event said some of his colleagues are pretending to support the county boss in public but criticizes him in secretly, he said the MCAs should be open, he added that he will continue supporting leadership of governor Lenku to get more projects in his ward.
