LSK calls for probe into murder of lawyer in Rongai as insecurity worsens

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has urged security organs to speed up investigation over murder of advocate Boaz Nyakeri who was kiled on Saturday in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

The High Court advocate was stabbed to death on Saturday morning as he walked home.

In a statement LSK Secretary Mercy Wambua said the advocate was stabbed by unknown persons at around 5.30am near Masaai Lodge in Rongai.

“The assailants who seemed to have been trailing him, stabbed him on the neck but did not steal anything from him,” said the LSK Secretary in a statement.

He was rushed to Sinai Hospital where he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital but passed on while being attended in the hospital emergency section.

His relative who was with him was also attacked by the assailant when he tried to rescue him. The attacker vanished without stealing anything. The motive of the attack is yet to be known.

The LSK also called on Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i to enhance security especially during this festive season.

“It is in this regard that we call on the Government to put in place strategies to ensure that advocates, magistrates, judges as well as all court officials are provided with adequate security and protection from any form of harm, threats, intimidation and attacks that may arise as a result of the nature of their work,” the statement read.

There has been raising concerns on the increased cases of insecurity in the country, in Kajiado North cases of mugging have increased, on the same weekend a man was robbed and attacked along Chapchap area. Few weeks ago, a body of a middle-aged man was found dumped around Fatima area.

In Magenche a middle-aged man was found dead in a bush, the body was hanging from tree and it is believed he was killed elsewhere.

Cases of passengers robbed at night in Matatus have also been reported. In Bondeni area a matatu driver who was picking passengers at around 4am on Monday was attacked, the assailants took away his phones.

Nkaimurunya’s Kware slum has been identified as a crime hotspot, in the recent past several people have been terrorized by a gang. Several security meetings have been held concerning the matter but little has been achieved.
