Keen Commissions First Library, ICT Centre in Kajiado North

The construction of the first youth resource centre in Kajiado North Sub County has been commissioned.

Kajiado County businessman Anthony Keen who broke ground for the project on Friday in Olekasasi Ongata Rongai Ward expressed optimism that the centre will be of great benefit to the youth.

Keen said the it entails library and ICT center, youth will borrow books and benefit from internet services.

The project will be funded by Keen in partnership with a local CBO Sare Crime Epuka Chain which donated computers. It will be managed by youth

The businessman said a number of youth engage in drugs, risk, illegal activities due to idleness the centre will empower them to be great leaders in the country.

“This is a pilot project, I will be monitoring how it will be run then put up more centres in other wards in the county,” he said.

He challenged the National Government to also provide protective equipment to Kazi Mtaani programme youth and commended it for providing food to the needy.

Ongata Rongai Ward Member of County Assembly Mwathi Pere said the project will benefit many youth in his Ward, he noted that land is available for more investors to pump resources.

“The population of youth is growing and many are engaging in drug abuse, we want them in this centre to have a good foundation for their future,” he said.

Ongata Rongai Ward administrator Samuel Muchiri said the project will benefit many youth since learning institutions were closed due to Covid -19.

The Ongata Rongai community had given a go ahead for construction of the resource centre ; elders are optimist that the rate of crime and drug use in the region will reduce drastically when the centre opens its doors.
