Don’t let politicians misuse you, youths told

Kajiado County youths have been urged not to allow politicians eyeing seats in the 2017 polls to misuse them.
Youth leader, Mercy Wanja, said politicians use youths during elections and dump them once they have achieved their selfish goals.
Speaking during the International Youth Week celebrations in Rongai, Wanja said youths have talents which politicians should nurture rather than leading them astray.
Nkaimurunya youth leader, John Mapera, urged security agents to work with youths to fight crime instead harassing them. The Government should upgrade public utilities such as social halls and stadiums to nurture youths’ talents, he said.
Kajiado County and National governments should empower jobless youths to start income-generating projects, he said.
Olkeri Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Onesmus Ngogoyo, challenged youths to visit government offices to seek assistance rather than just complaining at forums.
“There should be equal opportunities in employment and all tribes should be represented,” he noted.
Ongata Rongai Ward MCA, Mwathi Pere, urged youths to apply for jobs at the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) sites at Oloosirkon and Ngong. He said some politicians were using youths to insult colleagues through social media.
Youths constitute over 60 per cent of Kenya’s population but many are used by politicians as a stepping stone to get into power, he added.
