The ongoing demolition of structures on road reserves along Magadi road saw Kware market in Ongata Rongai brought down by bulldozers. Those affected took the matter to the streets by protesting and barricading Magadi road until the boys in blue hurled teargas at them.
Governor Joseph ole Lenku has formed a 9 member joint committee to seek a site for a new market place for traders following the incident.
The committee consists of traders, senior county officials and local MCAs and shall be chaired by Nkaimurunya MCA Waichanguru Ndirangu.
โI feel for you my brothers and sisters. We stand with you and my Government will facilitate relocation to enable you restart your economic livesโ said the Governor.
Those in the committee tasked to find both a temporary and a permanent site for traders include Market chairpersons James Gachie, Ruth Muthoni and Youth leader Anthony Mugo. The county will be represented by trade and investment Chief Officer Grace Saitoti, Lands Chief Officer Moses Murunya, Nkaimurunya Ward administrator William Ketuta and nominated MCA Wacuka Mathenge including a representative of Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje.
The Governor promised traders to look into their proposals that should be presented to him soon.
