Chinese accused of cover up on death of worker who fall from SGR, Kajiado

Workers of Standard Gauge Railway have accused some Chinese officials of trying to cover up death of their colleague who died on duty along Tuala Ngong, Kajiado North Sub County.

The workers had protested to Ongata Rongai police station following the death of Victor Barasa who fell from 40 metres -feet high bridge. He succumbed to his injuries on his way to hospital.

According to sources the deceased had no safety gear belt and boots. The workers accused China Communications Construction Company of not implementing enough safety measures that could prevent injuries and death cases.

They claimed they are harassed and work for long hours.

The deceasedโ€™s brother said the body was taken to the city mortuary without the family and the cause of death was reported as โ€œsudden death.โ€™

He said they were forced to correct and indicated he died after falling from the bridge, they also recorded a statement in Rongai police station .The postmortem was done but the results are yet to be released.

Company Spokesman Steven Zhao said dismissed claims that they tried to cover up the incident. He said the company will address issues raised by the workers and will compensate the family.
