Olkeri Ward Oloolosurutia Location chief has raised alarm on the existence of dangerous gang comprising of youth stealing and terrorizing locals.
The chief Domisiano Kimiri said the gang consists of youths who dropped out of school and others under 16 years with one of them being a young lady. They have been stealing from houses. In the recent robbery incident, they broke into a house in Naromoru and stole electronics.
The gang has also been robbing pedestrians, getting out of work places at night.
“I was given a picture of one gang member, I found out that he uses a nickname, he is a resident of this area,” he said. The chief said some of the members are arrested and later released by police.
Some bodaboda operators in the area have also been accused of being members of the gang. The chief said bodabodas who are not registered to operate in the area will not be allowed to operate at night.
The chief warned residents of protecting youth who he said they (parents) are aware are terrorizing people in the location. He said no one will be spared if arrested; most parents have been on the defense when arrests are made.
The landlords were also directed to ensure their tenants are documented to prevent criminals renting houses in the area and promote NyumbaKumi governance.
A resident Charles Kinuthia said the police have failed in arresting the group. He said some of the officers might be benefiting from stolen items.
He believed with arrival of a new OCS in Kiserian, the police are going to eliminate the gang.
