The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has advertised a tender for the maintenance of Magadi road from Bomas to Kiserian.
The Authority has invited bids from eligible contractors for provision of 2nd Quarter Financial Year 2018-2019, which will be funded by the Road Maintenance Levy Fund.
According to the state corporation’s engineers, the maintenance is estimated at Sh90 million.
The pre-tender site visit will be on Thursday September 20, 2018 at Junction B19/H3 Bomas/Galleria Mall interchange at 10.00 AM. Tenders shall be received on or before Thursday October 4, 2018 at 11.00AM.
The advertisement deals a big blow to residents who have been demanding for an upgrade of the road to a dual carriageway to ease traffic congestion that has blown up transport fares.
KeHNA has been on the ground removing temporary structures on the road reserves for three weeks now, throwing traders, investors and other business people into panic mode in fear of demolition of buildings housing them. However, the corporation is yet to mark any permanent building for pulling down.
The demolition of Rongai Soko Mjinga market sparked protests, with traders barricading the road forcing police to lob teargas to disperse them. They are demanding the Kajiado County Government to allocate them a new site after resisting to relocate to a site near Ongata Rongai Saitoti Hospital.
A Tuesday morning check indicated that the traders are back at Soko Mjinga selling their wares in make-shift structures.
Seriously??? Why would a govt want to waste money on repairs when they had already promised people that they’ll upgrade that road to a dual up to Kona Baridi? What has now happened? The residents with all the traffic snarlups does not take this lightly. It means there are more residents than others. We should reject any kind of repairs as it won’t help in curbing the traffic menace experienced day in day out.
We are now tired!! Wonder what they will come to promise us when they come for votes!! Are we the residents of Rongai second class citizens!!? We urgently need infrastructure both from the County and National Govt period!
Cut the slack and tell us nothing but the truth! Who in his sense can think of wasting public money to maintain an animal path? Whoever is the Director should wake up and give Rongai and Kesirian their deserved right. Poor educated engineer approved the animal path without climbing and driving lane in the name of Magadi Road.
