Absence of Kajiado County Senator Philip ole Mpayeei during International Women’s Day 2021 did not stop women from questioning his wife Florence Mpayeei on his “dismal performance.”
The senator’s wife who represented him in the occasion was booed by women who seemed frustrated by the senator who they overwhelming voted in 2017.
Mrs Mpayeei had noted that she had represented the senator but was forced to change tune after the hostile reception, she had to instead indicate that she had attended the event as a woman to celebrate women.
Area MP Joseph Manje said the reaction from women indicated that there are issues that the senator has to look into, he directed the wife to take him the message.
Kajiado County First lady Edna Lenku requested the women not to embarrass their fellow women.
She urged the women to stand firm in advocating for their rights and speak on behalf of those who are yet to liberate themselves from bondages of retrogressive cultural practices.
Politician Brian Ole Sekento who hails from the ward called on the women to make a right decision in the ballot in 2022 by electing him as their senator. He said the women reaction indicated that there is a leadership crisis.
Oloolua Ward politician Sophia Katampoi urged women to go for elected positions rather than waiting to be nominated.
