Kajiado County Government had kicked off tarmacking of the 800-metre Ongata Rongai market road to improve access to the facility.
Launching the Market Road project recently Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku, who was accompanied by Senator Philip Mpaayei and Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje, said the County Government will ensure more money is allocated to upgrade Rongai’s feeder roads.
The Rongai market road is expected to serve residents in Nkaimurunya and Rongai wards by easing access to the market.
“Traders selling commodities on road reserves will be required to operate from the market which has been neglected for long, this will improve tax collecting,” he noted.
The County Government had put up a social hall which also has space in ground floor which will also accommodate traders.
Rongai Ward representative Mwathi Pere said the road will cost Sh19 to which is part of ward fund allocations. He said the region has never benefited from flagship projects and called on Governor Lenku to give the ward a priority.
Mwathi said in next financial year he will ensure that money is allocated for constructing a parking area near the market.
The National Government is planning to tarmac Gataka road, Rimpa and expand Magadi road, to reduce traffic jam and attract investors, he said.
