Kajiado North Sub County artists have urged Kajiado County Government to support them to nurture their talents.
Artists who are under Full House Art, a group consisting of 150 artists want the county to learn from Machakos County how to nurture talent to come up with a ‘Kajiado Hollywood’
They pointed out that Governor Alfred Mutua has been successful in promoting art and had launched Machakos Entertainment Centre for Film, Media, Music and the Arts (MACHAWOOD) and set aside 50 acre chunk of land and Sh 60 million in 2013 for the industry.
Kajiadio artist Patrick Maina said the county should learn from Mutua and come up with such project.
Speaking during an artists event in Kajiado North, he called on the county to do away with heavy taxes imposed on artists when shooting films in the county. He noted that although they have been participating in revenue forums and indicated that the charges should be nil, their proposals have never been implemented.
“Youths should be allowed to do their productions free of charge, the county should be marketing itself by allowing free shooting, it should also equip social halls” he added.
He noted that most artists have shunned the county due to high taxes. Artist Eugene Simiyu said the International Youth event was organized in their sub county but they are yet to benefit from the youth funds. He said the county should start holding artists competition every year, the same way they hold football competitions and marathon.
