Six MMU students arrested over Magadi road matatu demos

More than six Multimedia University students are in police custody,they were arrested over protests in the institution’s main campus along Magadi road.

The students protestors had blocked the Magadi road on Monday over accidents on the Nairobi Rongai route; they accuse matatu operators of dangerous driving and causing death of pedestrians.

Last week a student was knocked down by a Public Service Vehicle, the driver escaped the scene, the injured first year student is receiving treatment in Kenyatta National Hospital.

“The drivers drive carelessly they drop passengers anywhere they want, they even con us, they overcharge us, they must change their habits,” a student protestor said.

The students had blocked the busy Magadi Road hurling stones at motorists and police who were forced to use bullets and teargas to disperse them.
