Environmentalists and local residents will work closely with the Kajiado County Government Public Health officers to end sewer menace in Ongata Rongai.
In a meeting in Diguna Maasai Lodge, which was attended by community, environment activists, public health officer, among others stakeholders, the attendees resolved to support the County Government in dealing with the sewer menace.
The locals raised concern over residents who divert waste water onto roads with others dumping effluent in nearby rivers.
Rongai Public Health Officer Joseph Waiyaki said the County Government is working to ensure all those diverting water are stopped. He said he had already issued notices to some and other taken to court.
He said he has disconnected several pipes connected illegally to release waste water onto roads.
He called on the locals to report anyone involved in dumping waste for action to be taken, adding that the County Government planned to construct a sewerage system in Rongai.
Environmentalist Rudolf Makhanu from Eden Steward, Nairobi Chapel said they are ready to work with the county in ensuring the environment is clean. He challenged the locals to recycle and reuse water in their premises.
The recycling of sewer waste is practiced by Osoita Lodge managers who recommended the community to try it to save costs.
