President Uhuru to open new Ngong market on Thursday

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Thursday ( tomorrow) open the Ngong modern market after its completion.

On Wednesday Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku banned hawking in the town this is after issuing orders for traders to move to the new modern Market.

The market is a joint venture between the County Government of Kajiado and the National Government, it will accommodate 2,000 traders. The World Bank had funded its construction at Sh 800 million.

The governor cautioned traders not to fall victim to conmen soliciting money to allocate them stalls.

“Do not give money to be allocated stalls that is unlawful, those who were registered by World Bank will be given priority, we will also allocate to those who were not registered and those from Oloolua, Matasia, Kiserian if we get more remaining stalls,” he said.

Some traders expressed their satisfaction regarding the relocation exercise. However some Maasai women protested in the town demanding a share of the stalls, they claimed their names were taken but they were not attended to during the allocation of the stalls on Wednesday, they had initially been allocated stalls in the old temporary market.
