Some parents in Kajiado County have been accused of orchestrating teenage pregnancies in the area to marry off their school going daughters.

Four sub counties in the expansive county have been identified as hotspots.

Outgoing Kajiado County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha (now Nakuru County Commissioner) blamed some parents for allegedly colluding with their daughters’ suitors to make them pregnant and use it as an excuse for marriage.

“We are aware some parents use pregnancy as an excuse to marry off their daughters,” noted Nkanatha in Kajiado.

He said many of them were also evading justice by pushing for their cases to be heard by elders in ‘kangaroo’ courts when apprehended.

According to leaders in Kajiado, the suspected parents identify a suitor, who then impregnates the girl before bride price is negotiated and paid.
