Kajiado County Government will pay Ngong traders Sh15, 000 as compensation each to shift so that construction work on Ngong market project can start.
The Sh800 million project funded by World Bank is expected be completed in one year.
The traders are expected to operate from Ngong stadium for the time being. The concerned authorities have so far been getting names of people who should be compensated.
The County Government had set aside more than Sh28 million with World Bank allocating around Sh68 million for face-lifting of the new location in the stadium. It will have facilities such as roads, lighting and sanitation blocks.
Matatus operating in the bus park will be forced to relocate to the stadium to pick and drop passengers
Ngong Bus Park will be closed temporarily until the Ngong Market project is completed. This follows appeals by the market traders who felt business will suffer when relocated next to the stadium. They claimed their business and transport business depend on each other. The storey market is the biggest project to be undertaken in the town, and locals have welcomed the project. Area MCA Robert Sungura said the project will open up the region.
The World Bank funded construction of Sh 86 million Ngong Bus Park which was opened last year.
