New Covid-19 cases in Kajiado County worrying, CAS Aman

Kajiado County on Wednesday reported its highest single-day increase in COVID-19 infections as 57 new cases were registered.

The new cases were reported by Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Health, Dr. Rashid Aman during Ministry of Health daily virus briefing.

Aman said Nairobi and its neighboring counties new cases are worrying and residents must follow health regulations.

He said the new cases are distributed as follows; Kajiado North 25, Kajiado East 20 , Kajiado Central ten and Loitoktok two.

The CAS indicated that the total number of cases is 637 in sample 4,275 raising the country’s total to 18,805 from cumulative tests of 254,273 samples. Ten patients died.

Aman said bars still remain closed and warned those who have been drinking in bars pretending that they are eateries.

The Kajiado North deputy county commissioner Tom Anjere has also called for liquor business stakeholders meeting on Thursday to deliberate on the Ministry of Health Covid-19 directive on reopening of the liquor outlets.

Kajiado County cumulative confirmed positive cases on 21st July were 591 with 12 deaths.

The cases are distributed as follows;Kajiado Central 194, Kajiado South 87, Kajiado East 145 , Kajiado North 158 and Kajiado West 6

On Tuesday cases Kajiado East had 4 confirmed positive cases. The four patients live in Kitengela and one is a health worker in a private hospital, the other patient is a food handler, third patient works for a real estate agency in Nairobi and last patient works for a bank in Nairobi County.

Kajiado North had four new positives cases .Two live in Ngong, one is from Ongata Rongai and is a health worker from a private hospital in Kiserian, while the other one is being traced by  the county surveillance teams.

Kajiado South had two new positives .One is from Namelok while the other is a repeat test.

Kajiado County CECM Medical Services and Public Health Esther Somoire, OGW said the total number of positive cases who have reported successful recoveries from the county treatment and isolation facilities remains at 180.

According to the Ministry of Health diabetes and hypertension are the leading underlying causes that lead to death of Covid-19 patients in the country.

Meanwhile President Uhuru Kenyatta has rescheduled crucial summit with Council of Governors to Monday, it was to be held on Friday. The summit will review the surge of Covid-19 infections in the country
