Kibiko Secondary School Principal Godfrey Mwaura is calling on the National Government to allocate more funds for construction of dormitories for the institution.
Speaking during foundation stone laying ceremony for the school administration block by Kajiado West Member of Parliament Moses Sakuda, the Principal said the school is recording many cases of student absenteeism.
The National Government, through the Ministry of Education, had allocated Sh5 million for the administration block.
“Most of the students do not attend class every day since they come from far, the dormitories will keep them in school,” he said. Few students have rented houses in the surroundings and most of them use the premises for purposes that lower their performances.
The institution also has a shortage of five teachers and the principal said the concerned authorities also need to look into the teacher shortage.
Sakuda said his office has given education priority to ensure more students are enrolled in schools.
Sakuda said he had spearheaded the building of several schools in the last three years and is focusing to increase allocation to upgrade others.
The region is among areas in Kajiado County fighting early marriages to ensure that girls are enrolled in schools.
