Kajiado County community joined hands with organizations in celebrating World Environment Day by cleaning Rongai town.

The clean-up started on 3rd June and ended on June 5th. The last exercise was supervised by the Kajiado County first lady Edna Lenku.

This came with the notice by the county to all food vendors who sell food along the road, warning them of a very huge fine if found selling illegally.

NEMA had already taken the initiative late April where they forcefully evicted food vendors along the road. They said that was one way of eradicating cholera and other waterborne diseases in Rongai town.

In her speech, the first lady insisted that it was important to observe cleanliness not during the Environment Day but every day for it is for the good of the residents.

“We need to come together with one voice in unison and stop the people who dump anyhow, we are going to penalize anyone found guilty of such actions,” She added. The area MCAs Mwathi Pere, James Waisha and Lucy Washuka also participated in the cleanup.

A group of young men by the name ‘Full house’ also participated they said the youth should be on the front line in cleaning the environment which is not only keeping them busy but also helping the society.

The cleanup was organized by Environment Committee which included Ongata Rongai Residents Association, Rotary Club of Rongai, St Johns Ambulance, and Nairobi Women Hospital among other organizations in partnership with the Kajiado County Government
