Kajiado County askaris to enforce social distancing order

More than 300 county security officers have been deployed to enforce the social distancing guidelines in fight against Corona Virus in Kajiado County.

The Directorate of Inspectorate Services has deployed the officers also known as askaris at urban centres to ensure traders and customers maintain the recommended one metre distance.

The askaris started their social distance operation in Kajiado East  Sub County trading centers.

They have focused on supermarkets, retail markets, boda boda transport shades, and the main bus parks to ensure people observe the one meter distance guideline issued by Health CS Muhahi Kagwe.

Governor Joseph Ole Lenku recently said trading would be allowed for essential goods and services but service providers must adhere to the anti-Covid 19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health

Mask clad askaris moving around armed with sanitizers kicked off the operation in earnest following the directive, catching panicky residents unawares.

“Our people have picked up washing hands and not shaking hands pretty fast as a ways of keeping the Corona virus at bay but they are yet to stop close interaction,” said the Governor.

He added that business enterprises that would not subject their customers to the one metre rule would be dealt with

Kajiado East sub county operation led by Superintendent   Patrick Kores said supermarkets, open airmarkets and cattle  sale  yards had  not put any measures to ensure the rule was followed by customers.

Residents interviewed by County Press called for free supply of masks and sanitizers as they could not afford them. The Kitengela Retail Market Chairperson Rachel Peshut said customers would not be allowed in to the market hence forth without  wearing masks.
