Kajiado County is the latest county to pass the Building Bridges Initiative, (Constitutional Amendment) Bill, 2020.
The county now joins seven other county assemblies that have approved the bill.
Leader of Majority Party Julius Moipaai had tabled the bill and the county assembly Committee conducted a public participation on the draft Bill on Tuesday.
Speaker Johnson Osoi said the law was followed in passing the bill.
Osoi said the MCAs were not enticed to support the bill through car grants and maintained that the grant bill was discussed in 2014 and approved.
“The president was just fulfilling his promises this car grant issue was discussed in the assemblies before the BBI,” he said.
Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) had approved Sh4.5 billion car grants for the MCAs and speakers days after the MCAs made demand to President Uhuru Kenyatta in exchange for their support of the BBI bill.
Kajiado County Governor Joseph ole Lenku called on Maa counties to approve the BBI bill, he said the bill will benefit the Maa community and is one of the major ingredients of peace in the country.
Lenku who is also the Chairman of the BBI in the South Rift noted that they support the ‘Handshake’ between president Uhuru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga..
He welcomed BBI proposal to increase revenue allocation to counties from 15 per cent to 35 per cent.
The governor said Jubilee Party MCAs who voted against the bill should be kicked out of the party for going against their party leader President Uhuru.
The MCAs who opposed the bill are mostly from “Tangatanga movement” that supports Deputy President William Ruto .The DP is expected to hold a rally in Ngong Kajiado North Constituency on Friday.
