After a severe drought that led to many locals spending a lot of money to buy water from water vendors, Rongai town residents have now to contend with impassable roads due to heavy downpours experienced in the area.
Most feeder roads in the town are muddy forcing residents to hire boda boda motorbikes to reach some estates. The boda boda operators hikecharges because some sections of the roads are waterlogged, he added.
Residents have appealed to the County Government to repair the roads.
Grace Mutua, a resident said she is forced to spend a lot of money daily to Nairobi using boda boda motorbikes due to impassable roads.
“I have to pay a motorbike Sh150 shillings daily and spend Sh 200 to town,” she lamented. She said is becoming too expensive to live in the town as most of her money is spent on transport, food and rent.
Charles Kimani said the cosmopolitan region has been neglected for long time and urged Governor Joseph ole Lenku to ensure locals benefit from taxes.
