Kajiado County lands ministry has launched a Sh110 million Geographic Information System (GIS) to fight corruption in land registry and enhance service delivery.
It took six months to install and update the digital systems covering the entire vast Kajiado County.
Lands sector in the County has been over the years plagued by alleged corruption and irregularities creating messy and deadly disputes among land buyers.
Hundreds of land buyers have allegedly been conned and both the County and National governments were denied revenue from land charges, prompting the County Government to set up a mega GIS lab.
The digitally secured system in the lands ministry building at Kajiado town has a geographical data base of pieces of lands in the county. Information regarding the size, rates status, zone and the owner information or otherwise details are readily available.
Kajiado County lands CEC Member Hamilton Parseina said the system is a revolution to County Government Land Registry. Parseina said unscrupulous land dealers who have been presenting fake manual paperwork for verification thus denying the county revenue have been dealt a blow.
While launching the programme Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho said the technology will streamline operation in lands sector.
