Deputy President William Ruto’s political rally in Kajiado County on Tuesday turned to a confrontation between gubernatorial aspirants’ supporters.
The political showdown played out openly in Kajiado South, Kimana hundreds of supporters branded in aspirants’ posters took over the venue others booing rivals who they did not want to address the them.
Gubernatorial aspirant Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko found herself in the confrontation, her rival MP Katoo Metito’s supporters booed her cutting short her speech.
It took intervention of Ruto to stop some aspirants from attacking Tobiko, an aspirant had demanded the MP to ensure her husband is in UDA party.
Samuel Kutata MP aspirant Kajiado South had told Tobiko to make peace with her husband before seeking gubernatorial position, a statement that angered the DP.
“Tuwachane na hiyo wacha Peris ashindane na Katoo ,Katoo anaweza shindana bila kusaidiwa ” Ruto told off the aspirant.
The two MPs Katoo and Tobiko kept off confronting each other leaving the aspirants to send home their messages.
The Kajiado South MP called on supporters not to cause chaos in any aspirants’ meetings, he said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will accommodate all aspirants, those who will lose nominations will be awarded positions.
In Kitengela Tobiko received massive support from her supporters who she promised to offer survives such as water if elected governor.
“Watu wa Kimana wamesema kiti irudi Kimana, sisi kitengela tumejipanga,” she told the crowd.
Tobiko later posted on her social media account accusing her competitors of misusing the youth.
“I hope the youth open their eyes and take note of the people who are trying to misuse them. The same misguided aspirants who are pouring money now by paying the youth to abuse and heckle other aspirants are the same ones who will turn around tomorrow to rob them of great leaders who would have worked to secure them the means to earn an honest living.” she said.
There is no amount of money any politician can pay the youth (or anyone else) during this campaign period that is worth the total sum of their bright future. “.. Dear youth, refuse to be used and abused! Do not allow anyone to rob you of the honest leaders you deserve. My mission to make Kajiado one of Kenya’s greatest counties remains unshaken and fortified in decency and honesty.”
Kajiado South MP aspirant Elijah Keen who was supporting Tobiko decamped to Katoo’s camp, he said he had to take the move after wide consultation, this was hours after governor Joseph ole Lenku netted Katoo’s social media person.
Ruto opened Ngusso Primary School tuition block funded by NG-CDF in Kajiado East accompanied with ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetangula, Phillip Mpaayei (Kajiado Senator), Mary Seneta (Nominated), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu) and Kithure Kindiki (Tharaka-Nithi) also attended the event.
