Kajiado County government has launched a programme to assist most vulnerable members of society in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
The project presents food donations to the vulnerable members in society gathered in rescue centres. The beneficiaries are reached throung Community Health Volunteer and village elders.
The Kajiado Covid-19 Partners’ Coordination Committee led by Chairperson Daniel Kanchori, spearheaded by Governor Joseph ole Lenku has distributed foodstuffs and face masks to the rescued girls at AIC Girls Boarding School based in Kajiado. A higher number of the girls were rescued from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriage.
“Those who had taken refuge at the centre after running away from outdated cultural practices such as early marriages, pregnancy and FGM,” noted. Kanchori.
In Kitengela town, where the chairperson led his committee to distribute food items to over 100 widows and areas village elders to cushion them from the effects of coronavirus.
“This is an on-going process and our target is mainly the poor who have been negatively affected by the pandemic,” Kanchori told County Press recently in Kitengela.
So far the team have distributed foodstaffs in Purko, Kajiado Town, Ongata Rongai, Ng’ong and among other places.
