Corporate firms, Govt urged to support boxers

Corporate companies and the Government have been urged to partner with other well-wishers to sponsor upcoming boxers to encourage youth to take up boxing as a career.
Speaking during aboxing tournament in Ongata Rongai Ward, aspirant Abdi Abdisalan said most sports activities such as boxing are not popular in the county since sponsors do not turn-up to facilitate the boxers.
Abdi who organized the event said it is not a must for youths to get employed, but they can earn a living through sports activities by nurturing their talents at a young age.
He challenged the National and County governments to support boxing, adding that the government only supports footballers.
Sports stakeholder Moses Kamalik challenged the youth to come together and speak with one voice to ensure that sports activities are supported. He noted that major challenge in sports is lack of corporate sponsorship.
The boxing event which was attended by hundreds of sports lovers saw participation of boxers from Kajiado North region.
