Two people have been reported dead with several others admitted in hospitals after cholera outbreak in Kajiado County.

The cases were reported in Ngong’s Mathare area and Kitengela town, several people have been admitted in Ngong Sub county Hospital.

Mathare resident Evelyne Nyaboke, 30 years old died of Cholera after getting admitted in Ngong hospital.

The deceased was a bar cleaner in Ngong town, she had reported to work feeling unwell. Another resident was also found dead in Ngong but health officers say they are yet to confirm if he died of cholera.

The deaths forced Ngong public health officials to close several pubs in buildings where the deceased used to work.

According to Dr Ezekiel Kapkoni County Director Medical Services the deceased in Ngong was brought to the hospital very late, he confirmed to County Press that a patient was also isolated in a Kajiado hospital.

The patient was isolated in Kajiado Referral Hospital ,she had been referred from Kitengela Hospital.

The staff and patients in the Kajiado hospital had ran for safety after the patient told them she was suffering from cholera before senior medical officers restoring order by ordering disinfection of the hospital.

“The outbreak is because of poor sanitation in our county, many people do not use latrines and there are cases of sewer water, we are on alert,” said Kapkoni.

The health officers will hold meetings to sensitize the public and close down unhygienic food eateries.

On April this year one person also died with several people admitted in Rongai hospitals suffering from the infectious disease. Ongata Rongai hospital had to set up isolation ward to isolate patients.

  1. Sleepy county in terms of matters health, I personally raised issues on raw sewage released to our backyards few months ago, this is to the county health and NEMA..no single response from the county health atleast NEMA said the function has been devolved to the sleeping county health. Were we waiting for confirmation if cholera will really strike?

Wake up and open your eyes Kajiado, your people are dying out of our neglect.
