Nkaimurunya Ward, Kware Location Senior Chief Kennedy Gitau has closed down lodging for sex workers in Kware slum.

The lodging has been operating illegally with sex workers  charging Sh30 for a room.

Gitau said he was informed of the lodging and had to take action since prostitution is prohibited. He warned landlords against using illegal means to get money.

“Put your premises to better use, we will not allow outsiders to promote prostitution in our area,” he said while addressing speaking during a public baraza in Kware area.

Ongata Rongai has been invaded by prostitutes in the recent past with most of them operating outside club in the area.

Last month Kajiado North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Francis Komen warned residents to be wary of sex workers who were targeting residents who expected to receive SGR land compensation money.

Gitau urged the County Assembly to pass laws to limit the  number of clubs and wines and spirits bars in the area..

Assistant Chief Esther Njeri said regulation through licences will help in ensuring youths engage in constructive activities.

The administrators also sent a warning to people who misuse the people living with disabilities to beg for money on road sides and in clubs despite having received monthly support from the National Government.

They said they planned to launch a clampdown to arrest all beggars, some said to have been transported from Tanzania.
