Boxing Federation of Kenya competition secretary John Waweru has said the federation is considering National Intermediate Championships to be held in Kajiado County.
Waweru who was speaking in Ongata Rongai after visiting the Kajiado boxing team “The Morans” said Kajiado Boxing Association (KCA) has been dedicated in ensuring the Kajiado boxers participate in boxing events.
He was accompanied with Embu County Boxing Association’s Secretary General Zakaria Karanja who challenged the boxers to be disciplined to be successful in the sport.
The officials will have a meeting to ensure the national boxing event will be held on March or April 2023.
The official said the event will be a national event and is expecting Kajiado team should prepare for it.
Waweru said the boxers have been improving in performance, they have played in novice and intermediate.
Kajiado County boxers were among youth team that was to represent the country in Spain, but the national government was in election mood and there was delay in release of funds.
He said next year they are expecting the government to support the teams to participate in international events.
` In the next 2 years I expect to have Kajiado boxers represent the nation in senior team, ” he said.
KCA chair Moses Kamalik said the association is prepared to hold national events.
He said in few years from now Kajiado will be leading County in producing boxing champions in Kenya.
The association secretary and Coach Mike Otieno said the boxers have no sponsor and are facing challenges of funds and have been depending on well-wishers. Sponsorship enables the team facilitate boxers to travel to tournaments.
The Kajiado team will participate in the National Boxing 5th Leg on 1st to 3rd December ,2022 in Madison Square Garden Nakuru County.
