Nominated Member of County Assembly Lucy Wachuka has called on Governor Joseph ole Lenku to allocate money for buying land for construction of a modern bus station in Ongata Rongai.
The MCA said construction of a bus station in the town will improve transport and reduce traffic jams in the busy town.
The World Bank has constructed a modern bus park in Kitengela and Ngong town leaving out Ongata Rongai which is the busiest town in the area, she observed.
Ngong town residents claim the stage was not done to the standards; they want the constructor to maintain it and County Government to construct shades and toilets.
James Kimani, a Rongai motorist, said he is forced to operate outside business premises causing disturbance to business people. He said they pay a lot of taxes to the county but it is yet deliver by giving services.
At a main bus stage, the business management and County Government had erected sign boards warning motorists against dropping and picking passengers. Bus and matatu operators have protested and are still operating from the area.
The County Government’s bid to ensure the matatus and buses operate from the few old stages has not been successful.
The National Government is expected to award a tender for Magadi road dual carriageway project, but motorists want some of the money used to construct a bus park.
